Sorry this is such a short topic but I have no idea what these mid-term elections are for? Is it to get rid of Bush? I thought he was set for several more years? Its not getting lots of coverage so it cant be that important.

Is he likely to win? Bush I mean, his approval rating keeps going down and I cant see how Saddam getting killed is going to help him. To be honest when he announced it and lots of people cheered and clapped I felt a bit sick.

i was amazed bush got re-elected, but when he did, i predicted that the government officials themselves would find a way to wither remove/reduce his power, or push him to resign.

i totally called this.

Very Nostrometalus for the win :D

I don't think he's even used many vetoes up until now, so something interesting is bound to happen. As a Lame Duck, he's essentially helpless, as was Hoover (I think) around the time of the Great Depression... I wonder if like Hoover, Bush will realise his mistakes, and that whatever he does (In this case, relating to Iraq) will be too little too late...

Apologies if this is wrong, My memory doesn't serve me too well on the Hoover-mation!

Indeed, until now he's pretty much been able to pass anything he wanted through, now he's going to have alot more opposition which is much better

The President has three options when it comes to legislation: approve, veto/pocket veto, or "Leave on his Desk" (ie ignore it and therefore delay it until the next Congress).

Rumsfeld has now resigned, to add to the changes coming all of a sudden, the plot thickens... and the Senate is now tied as well, with Montana confirmed as Democrat we now await the situation in Virginia...

from what i understand of it all, any decision bush makes can be overturned by the house of representatives now as there`s more opposition that support for him there now.

The idea of a female president scares me to be honest. An ethnic president would be cool though.

If the Democrats gain control of the Senate as well as the House (Are the independents in there going to be voting along similar lines?), then things are definitely not going to get easier for Bush, that's for sure.

Inquiries into the Iraq War and the handling of Hurricaine Katrina could be set up with the right levels of support, which really wouldn't be any good for him... hell, if he's really unlucky or gets anything more wrong there could even be impeachment proceedings... ok, it may be pie in the sky, but that could well happen. And I really do dislike him!

They're pretty much like the local elections here which decide how strong a party is in Congress and also to elect governors for another 4 years(although not all states do that)

You have elections on all members of the house of representatives and about a third for the Senate.

So nothing where Bush is directly linked but it does hurt the Republicans having more Democrats in there. Unfortunately have to wait until 2008 when that schmuck is finally gone and we can get the country back on the right track, hopefully Rudy G will indeed run and get the nod for it.

I guess it's similar to the mid-term local elections we have here.
Looks like America has had enough of Bush and his dangerous sidekicks, and is heading for a Democrat President next time, which could well be the first female President - one Hilary Clinton.
