Right, I've been having a few problems with outlook express recently, and I have no idea what's wrong.

Firstly, I can't recieve anything. Despite sending myself an email, when I Send/Recieve, it just returns with a no mail messages. I'm sure if I can't send emails either, which would make things even worse.

So, can anyone shed some light on this? I'm a bit rogered if this doesn't work.

Cheers

whats the exact error code
0x800CCC..
check tools->accounts, mail tab
how many accounts are in there? Make sure that you have the correct e-mail account set as default..
go into the properties of the account, check e-mail address, incoming and outgoing mail server, account name and password, make sure that Secure Password Authentication has NOT been ticked, has outgoing server "My server requires authentication" been ticked?
If this fails, try deleting then recreating the account...
if this still fails goto http://www.mail2web.com and check to see if you can log in using web mail.
Also do you have anti-virus software, does that do automatic mail checking, if so try disabling

Yeah, I checked everything and it seemed fine. It's working now, luckily, I had to do send/recieve about five times before I got all my messages, but it's all okay now.

Cheers.

Can you ping your pop and smtp servers from your computer, when your connected? eg ping pop.freeserve.co.uk - should give you 4 replys from the server meaning it can communicate.

Have you checked as Icarus said, all your settings under Tools > Accounts and then properties of your mail account?

Check your pop and smtp addresses carefully. Plus, some ISPs regularly (eg. ntlworld) has send receieve faults with email accounts; just wait a few hours and it should be ok when you come back to it
