I don't think they should, but I've noticed in quite a few magazines they have been criticising games for having no online abilities. So what if it's not online, it doesn't make it any poorer in my opinion.
What happens if these game developers then start to concentrate more on putting online abilities into their games? They start to put less effort into the single player section, that's what.
I don't play games online myself, and I wouldn't like to be stuck with sub-standard single player modes, because that just wastes the gaming experience for people like me, who aren't interested in online gaming.

Look at Rainbow Six 3 - sure it's a very good game, but without the online element, it wouldn't be half as good.
Unless games are designed to be played specifically online, then that's obviously a point in the score it gets. But online features are mostly gimmicky in games, and they play just as well without them.
In the future, when everyone's got consoles online, and all games have online features, then it'll obviously be a much bigger issue in the review.
