Hello there,
I've been trying to use the SSI tags on my forthcoming web-site and although it will let me include the date and all those simple commands, when it comes to displaying something as simple as a text file I get nothing showing up on my page, not even an error.

Can anyone advise further? Also...

I'm using the correct sendmail location and it's taking a day, if at all to receive anything through my scripts. Can anyone advise re: this as well?

Apart from these two gripes I am really happy with Freeola, I've come from a different host where all this stuff worked and now I am getting really frustrated.

Cheers in advance.

Hello there,
Right, I've just altered a couple of things and it turns out that I wasn't using a Freeola Email address all along. I have a members script thing so to test I was using an external Email address - nothing received, I use my domains address - works fine! Obviously I'll have to work around that.

I've now also managed to get a text file and the Freeola PHP hit counter included using SSI, it also turns out that I was using the wrong syntax to execute a CGI script. I've sorted that out too!

Thanks a lot for your help!

If you have your txt file in the cgi-bin you need to reference it as cgi-shl:

I've just tried this and it works.

I've run out of time now, but this page http://freeola.com/support/webspace_cgi.php documents the above path and may also help you with your sendmail problem.

Let us know how you get on, and if you need some more help I'll be around tomorrow...

Hello there,
Thanks a lot for your reply. With regards to the SSI, I have used both the code that came with the CGI script and also the one that the Freeola support page recomments, they are:

and

Neither of these are working, the files all have the correct permissions as the text file is going up (numerically) with every 'hit' and for whatever reason the contents of the text file are not shown.

I will try using the hit counter provided by Freeola so hopefully that will sort out the hit counter problem, but I do have other scripts that rely on SSI.

I've tried putting a sole text file in the same directory as my SHTML document and trying to call it using SSI but that's not working either?!?

I've just noticed your SSI code doesn't have a space after the two hyphens, but the echo codes that I've used (with spaces) do work?!?

I didn't realise there was a Freeola mailing script, I am not after an Email form though. I am using a script which Emails members etc. so I obviously need to sort that out. I understand the location of sendmail is /usr/sbin/sendmail, I've also tried /usr/ports/mail/sendmail - again to no avail.

The script I am using does give the option of putting the mail server in instead (mail.freeola.net) and this just times out. I've made sure that I am using a Freeola registered Email address as it's under my domain and it doesn't seem to be working.

I have tried an Emailer before and used both Freeola Email addresses as the sender / receipiant (sp?) and that didn't work.

Cheers.

Hi,

SSI:
Strange that some 'includes' are working but not all - have you double checked your syntax?
As some are working it sounds like you've correctly named the page .shtml which is required so I'm guessing it's probably just something silly.

I've recently created a page using the code below which is working fine:

Can you point to the page and/or show the code if you've still got problems?

sendmail:
Again I'm using the Freeola "form to mail" script successfully on numerous sites without any problems. I've just tested it and received the email in a couple of minutes. It's not always this fast but does seem reliable.
To use the Freeola code you should be directing your FORM here:
cgi-bin/form_to_mail.php
The email the FORM writes to also needs to be from a Freeola domain.
Are you using the Freeola script or one of your own?

Hope this helps...
If not can you supply some more details?
