Ello, anyone know of any decent programs that can help me to recover some data on a knackered drive?

It's my laptop hard drive, keeps skipping, and can't read a lot of data on it, wonder if there were any programs that'd help with it?

Before going to the kitchen you could try this: http://www.theabsolute.net/sware/dskinv.html it works on NTFS.

Apparently putting the hard drive in the freezer for a while often helps, although I don't know whether putting a whole laptop in the freezer is a good idea :O) If you can remove the hard disk, it might be worth a go. Have a CD burner/network drive ready and waiting though, as it only works temporarily. It's really just a last shot at getting your data before binning the drive.

You could try Active Undelete. I think that works on NTFS. Never used it myself but one of my friends seems to think it's quite good.

And yeah, NTFS drive, a lot of the programs I can find are just for FAT32.
