Yes, maybe I should have been a little specific. did you see that program the other night about Turkey farms and Pig Farms? The conditions those poor animals had to live in was disgusting - there literally were corpses among the living - and some of the animals had to resort to eating the corpses. Sick stuff.

To an extent I would have to agree with you there. Animal testing is only necessary in certain practices (Medical as you say) - food, cosmetics or cleaning products testing is totally unacceptable.

As long as you're not trying to get at me! :P I feel for all animals who are subjected to this kind of cruelty, it's just that the public is mostly shown the Dogs/Cats/Monkeys for the 'Awww' factor - and it works. It's a shame nothing ever seems to get done about it.

Well, I don't eat eggs, but the girlfriend always buys freerange.

Thats not the point. You said "animals" in general. Turkey farms overcrowd too, and in some cases the birds live amongst the corpses of others, and also live with horrendous infections.

I fully agree, and something should be done about it. IMHO it should be illegal for this type of research, and an astounded it is not already. As I've previously mentioned I agree with animal testing in medical research, but not for cosmetics, or indeed, in the case posted on this thread.

Its not you personally, but I just get a little annoyed when everyone gets up in arms about dogs or cats (because they are cute pets) being abused, when similar awful situations are sometimes brought to light with livestock / fowl conditions, and people don't get half as upset about it.

Hypocritical maybe, but no, I'm not vegetarian. But the animals we eat are certainly not tortured like this. They receive quick deaths in 'clean' slaughter environments. It's not like they are slowly butchered alive.

Battery Hens? Don't know about you, but the eggs I get are free-range. Guaranteed.

Also, we don't eat Dogs or Cats so you can't really bring livestock into this.

I don't know how you could find justification (not you personally - unless you do) in hacking the muscles and voice boxes off of animals in the name of pet food research, or forcing them to sleep on concrete or nail-ridden wooden boards. It's damn wrong.

I'm sorry, that argument just doesn't wash with me. Forget cute and cuddly animals, what about battery hens, sheep being packed into lorries so tighly they suffocate and general abuse toward animals specifically in order to feed us?

Are you a vegiterian?

While I agree with animal testing, and that it has to be used in certain areas, using animals for pet food research is plainly wrong.

That is really sick stuff. You've got me close to tears here.

I seriously hope these monsters are fully exposed and that they are no longer able to inflict this cruelty upon these poor, defenceless animals.

If you did that to a person, you'd get banged away for life - sentenced to death in other Countries. Yet it's ok to do it to an animal? Get out of my face, you disgust me.

Thankfully, we don't buy IAMS products - but who's to say this doesn't go on in the Pedigree Chum and Whiskas etc. labs?

I thought at first when reading the topic title that it was going to be something really funny.

I then saw the quote and knew it would be unpleasant, but I didn't realise how much so. I can accept that sometimes with testing it can be unpleasant, but if it is necessary, i.e. wonder drugs, I can just about bear it.

However I can't see any logic behind cutting out vocal chords or parts of thigh muscle to test pet food. That is just sick. Cruelness for the sake of it almost. I hate people like that. Recently in Airdrie or somewhere, just outside Glasgow anyway, some neds tied a rocket type firework to a dog and set it off. It litterally blew the dog to pieces.

If I ever meet these people... in the words of Lennox Lewis in the domestic violence ads, I don't know if I could stop myself.

Isn't IAMS the one that says they give pets healthier lives etc?

Oo, and killing people will help...!
