I was just reading the post, what an age we live in and due to everything I have been doing in the last few months I had to disagree.
Does no one else miss the classics?
Do yourself a favour, go and find a gamer who has been playing since the days of the Super Nintendo and ask him (or her) what their favourite games is, I bet you it won't be Half-Life or Goldeneye.
My personal favourite games are in the Wing Commander series which Origin has long since forgotten by Origin, they always represented a well thought out plot seamlessly combined with a great action pakced space combat game. My favourite Zelda game was on the SNES as was my favourite mario game.
Today the cost of production is hindering games rather than helping them, it means that companies are more likely to put out sequel after sequel using the same game engine and that costs will be cut in other areas such as the planning phases.

Personally I would trade my modern day favourite (Perfect Dark) for WCIV anyday, and while this may seem like a contridiction as it is not THAT old and very expensive, it was the last game that made me go WOW, it was a game born from a legacy which had been created in the best years of the gaming industry, just as was the Zelda and mario franchises.

As long as Nintendo, especially Miyamoto, continue to make games, I believe that there will always be classic games around. Now that Nintendo have decided to use DVDs, which will hopefully cut costs, it might mean that there will be more than one Mario game (not party/golf/kart spin-offs) per new console. Even though I hardly ever play my NES, I know I will always treasure it, and will certainly not sell it. I know that some may see emulators as 'bad', I think it's the best way to re-play those great games again. (I'm currently playing Mario Bros. 2)

Oh I'd never disagree with that, I love Perfect Dark to bits, I've been playing Perfect Agent non-stop for 3 weeks and still haven't completed it. My problem is that this is one of the few games that is worthwhile buying, the resources required to pull it off are so great that it can only be done once per console, possibly twice, whereas the old 2D consoles could have sequel after sequel and every one would be original (compare the mario games 1 through 3 to Tomb Raiders 1 through 3 or even 4 and you'll see that mario altered the most and was the most original).
Anyway I've been searching the internet fo months about the Kilrathi saga (WCI-III) and its become such a collectors item it goes for £200 or more, d'oh.

That's not all true, I get what your saying and you got a point, I loved all my nes and snes games, I used to play them all day every day, when I came back from school I would switch on Excite bike, or Donkey Kong Country, all these games lacked modern graphics but exploded gameplay onto our screens! but now I play Perfect Dark and my other new titles, but just because they're new doesn't mean they're bad! they have some of the best gameplay and challenges, the snes couldn't give us that! we are so lucky to have people that update our consoles regulary! if we didn't we would still be playing 8mb carts!! that's such a bad thought!! 2d games all over, but if you read my letter above then you will see the other side of what this is all about.
