Does no one else miss the classics?
Do yourself a favour, go and find a gamer who has been playing since the days of the Super Nintendo and ask him (or her) what their favourite games is, I bet you it won't be Half-Life or Goldeneye.
My personal favourite games are in the Wing Commander series which Origin has long since forgotten by Origin, they always represented a well thought out plot seamlessly combined with a great action pakced space combat game. My favourite Zelda game was on the SNES as was my favourite mario game.
Today the cost of production is hindering games rather than helping them, it means that companies are more likely to put out sequel after sequel using the same game engine and that costs will be cut in other areas such as the planning phases.
Personally I would trade my modern day favourite (Perfect Dark) for WCIV anyday, and while this may seem like a contridiction as it is not THAT old and very expensive, it was the last game that made me go WOW, it was a game born from a legacy which had been created in the best years of the gaming industry, just as was the Zelda and mario franchises.
Anyway I've been searching the internet fo months about the Kilrathi saga (WCI-III) and its become such a collectors item it goes for £200 or more, d'oh.
