We are writing to make you aware of fake domain name renewal invoices which are currently being circulated via e-mail or letter. These may be from companies such as Domain Registry of America (DRoA) or Domain Registry of Europe (DRoE) or others and imply that you should renew your domain name 'direct' to prevent it being lost.
This frowned upon practice has already caused the UK advertising standards agency (ASA) to ban DRoE from issuing any further mailshots. Plus DRoA has been legally ordered to issue some 50,000 refunds by a Canadian court.
It is illegal to send unsolicited invoices in the UK. Most such letters will arrive from abroad to addresses which have been copied from the whois online domain registration databases.
If you have already paid one of these companies we advise you to ask for your money back.
When your domain name is soon to expire you will receive reminders by e-mail from Get Dotted. If you are concerned at any time about the status of your domain name you can view the official public WHOIS record for your domain name by typing it into the search box at GetDotted.com.
