As some of you may know, I'm a bit of a muso. I'm studying for a music-related degree, and I play lots of instruments, and my spare time revolves around listening to music and playing music. But I've never really explored PC-based editing and mixing...until last night. My girlfriend is also a musician (a very accomplished one at that), and she has lots of CDs of classical, Eastern, funk, soul, disco - all the things that I don't have. So last night I started copying samples from these CDs, and putting them together to form new tracks, along with some CDs that I took round, of hip-hop, rock, lo-fi. And the results were...impressive. I haven't got the one track I did finish here yet, but I'll upload it later and you can tell me what you think of it. It's got about 20 samples on it, see if you can guess what/who they are ;p

I'd love to have a crack at making music with my PC. I just haven't got the capital to buy all the equipment I would need at the moment. I know a couple of people who have done and the results were spectacular. I even dabbled with CUBASE at Uni for a semester, which further interested me, but I just haven't got the money or time at the moment.

A couple of Beastie Boys in there. Some Jackson 5, Lauryn hill, The Headhunters - about 30 samples in there somewhere, but I took a load out from the original version because it was a bit over the top.

thats really good, i really liked it. it all fits really well which is the biggest problem with using lots of samples. It's hard to tell the sounds apart but i think i made out some Beastie Boys at the least.

Well, I've uploaded one of the tracks I've been working on:

Check the "most recent mini-log entry" on the right, and right-click and "save as...".
