Oops, just found this post, as theborg said, negative time cannot be shown in spreadsheets.

thanks for the help but i have to be able to show negative time i.e 9:00 - 8:45 = 0:15


any ideas or can it not be done???

If you want to do the whole thing in one cell type

=TIME(9,0,0)-TIME(8,45,0)

and format the cell to either a time format or custom hh:mm.

and also, the reason it only works 1 way is that otherwise you would have a negative time - which defys the time rules of computers.

its easy, click in the box you want the answer to appear in, then enter the formular

=A2-A1

this presumes that the lowest time is A1, and the highese A2, so in your example, it would be A2 being 9:00 , and 8:45 being A1
