It has only just started to happen recently and no matter what I do I am getting serious gameplay interuptions from something on my computer. The games all run completely fine for a while and then all of a sudden the gameplay goes very choppy making it unplayable, the game pauses for 1-3 seconds and then resumes choppy only for it to happen again a couple of seconds later. I have all the latest drivers for all my hardware. My system is:

Windows 2000 PRO (switched back from XP)
Ahthlon 2600 XP +
1GB PC 2700 RAM
Radeon 9800 XT
40GB Hard Drive

Service pack 4 is installed with all the updates and I am running Direct X 9.0b. Everything was running fine until recently and I have done everything, fresh system boot, reset bios, uninstalled Norton antivirus, turned mouse acceleration off, cleared CMOS, disk defrag, disk clean up, ran update patches for games, absoluley everything has been done to correct the problem. I don't think it is a background application problem as it was running fine until around 1 week a go. It starts after about 20-30 minutes of play and continues for a long time. Outisde of that the frame rates are super solid which makes me think there is a problem with something running during the game but I am unsure of what it is.

Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers.

I do have 1Gb. Had no probs with 1536 and 3072. Doubt it will get to 3072 anyway.

So what have you got it as now? I have mine at 1536 min and 3072 max. Think it was automatically set to this on a fresh install as I can't remember setting it to that.

Cheers for the replies. It seems the problem was with the Virtual memory. I had set it to a minimum of 2048 and the maximum of 2048. When I contacted Westwood support for Command and Conquer Generals and they said that they had others having the problem when setting the min and max value the same. Strange, very strange but it seems to have worked. I have a couple more fans arriving for my PC so it should bring the temp down, its become more frequent since overclocking which suggests to me that could play its part. I will also go grab an adware removal tool and see whats on my system.

Thanks for the help though.

Also, you may what to run ad-aware, and scan every thing, including the C drive. I installed it on a frienlds PC after the Connect dialog keep coming up during games (basically, it crashed to desktop) and set it to scan everything, and it had 527 peices of spyware on it, one of which was causing the problem.

How hot is your CPU temp? To me, this sounds like your graphics card could be overheating, because as you say ita after around 30 mins, have you ran any ram tests?

Try system restore, and restore back to a point before this began happening.
