Game Boy Advance - I'm tempted to get one, but I'm put off by the lack of buttons. After playing games on the N64, PSX and DC for years, I'm used to using a vast number of buttons in games. I can't imagine many great games that can easily be reduced to two regular buttons and two shoulder buttons. On top of this, the games are expected to be £40 for SNES quality titles?

Anyone else have any opinions on this?

There was also the Megadrive D-pad:

Take Control!

with just 3 buttons...

Mr Miyamoto is a firm believer of solid control with few buttons.

Look at Mario 64. Other than the camera, which you wouldn't need on the GBA anyway, only 3 buttons where used.

Racers typically only need an accelerator and a brake, and I'm sure they'll find a convenient way for you to use your weapons too.

Other examples can be found in existing Gameboy games. Look at the way Link's Awakening worked. Simply select which item you have by either button, and switch them around, (I recommend bombs and arrows).

Look at RPG's. Mostly menu driven, with one button to call the menu and confirm stuff, the other to cancel it.

I doubt games will be £40, more likely £30, still fairly pricey though!

Well, it works suprisingly well and if you see the stuff I've just seen that's just come out then you might decide otherwise. Advance GTA, a type of Gran Turismo on the GBA looks like it will be fantastic and a new Megaman game and wakuwaku Star looks to be a decent original puzzle game.

Reviews when I get to play them (hopefully)

yes, I've played it and it is good, but still I can't help feeling that the GBA is a handheld SNES which is more expensive, and has less control options.

Have you ever played Mario Tennis?

Uses five buttons, including the start button.

Two for tennis shots. One for cancelling a shot, and the others are used for selecting stuff on the main menu.

And it's a great game.
