This has probably been said in one of the other threads but didn't fancy trawling through the trolling.

Isn't it funny how after the UK 'independent' enquiry results come out, and the BBC becomes a total scapegoat, and the government demands apologies... within days Bush has said he would like an independant enquiry?

I can imagine Bush watching developments and then going, hey guys.. these things really work - lets get one of our own underway and then nobody can't point the blame at us.

Yeah, they didn't have to steal their useless investigations tradition from anyone!

The most convenient part is that the results won't come out unitl AFTER the elections....

How shockingly cynical of you!

Actually, I don't think you've hit the nail bang on the head; the US already has a fine tradition of independant investigations that are worthless, pointless, and roundly ignored by the majority of the public. Kenny Starr's attempts to impeach Clinton over a spunk stain for example; where was the investigation into the 40-odd deaths allegedly ordered by the Clintons during their time in the White House? And don't even get me started on the Warren commission...
