It's a great way to get games without going out to the shops or cluttering your house with game boxes and there are some good offers on PC games to download too.
But Downloads aren't without their problems, you can't trade them in for one thing, there's no second hand market or way of creating one unless someone comes up with a clever idea of re-distribution.
Also, even though some Broadband speeds have increased, most of us still live with below 4meg download speeds (1.5 for me on average) and if you lose your downloads then you'd be looking at literally weeks of downloads if you bought a lot of games.
When it comes to changing console if yours breaks, you can't always get everything back either without downloading it all again and then there is the issue of storage space, something I'm painfully aware of on my 360's tiny 20GB drive.
Though game cases use space, a lot of people are still attached to their physical media and are happy to display the cases as well. But the flip side is that physical media can be scratched and damaged and replacing this often means another trip to the shop and another bag of money if the game isn't covered by some sort of replacement guarantee.
So what do you all think of downloadable games? Is it a good sign that we're slowly moving to a Download culture, or a necessary evil?
One day I reckon even consoles and that will be available as software. Buy the PS10 and you get access to a collection of software to download to your multi format entertainment screen (with attachments such as XBOX 3600, PS10 and Digital TV).
Always gonna have issues, but you can always back the software up. That takes away most of your downsides there about downloading anyway. And selling them on? Meh......annoying but not major.
Assuming you will continue so I'll check back in a bit
