I would like to have seen Angus Deayton stay on as well, but it was not mere accusations. If I remember rightly photos appeared in several newspapers.

Yes, I think it was too easy on the government and far too harsh on the BBC. Their main failing was simply not backing down and checking things. It is fine to report allegations, to ask questions, but don't accuse people of things directly and you will be fine.
