Now that is that its improved sequel has arrived. This weekend, I finally gave in to temptation and rented out International Superstar Soccer Pro Evolution 2, just to see what all the fuss was about.
The first thing you notice is that all the real player names are now in the game, now we finally have "Owen" instead of "Oween"! This is only a minor addition to the game, but somehow manages to make the game feel that much more atmospheric. However if your a club follower then you may still be disappointed as in the "Master League" gamemode there still aren’t real club teams, so you’ll still have to play as "Manchester" instead of Manchester United. This however is a minor complaint as you can always create your favourite team using the games superb create a team option. However if you love following your Country be you English, Scottish, Welsh, Irish or any other Nationality then all your countries stars are there with their real names.
As for the gameplay well the controls are exactly the same as the last ISS, so those of you familiar with the prequel will feel right at home. The gameplay is spot on with the game feeling and playing like real football. ISS is still a football sim, you cant just score goals at whim (like FIFA) you have to pass the ball, wait for the runs and use all your skills to break down the oppositions defence before you'll even get close to scoring. Some may rather FIFAs more Arcadey feel, after all who doesn’t like scoring 6 goals in a match! However for true football fans ISS is the game to own. Theres no more cursing at the screen when your goalie stands still and lets a goal sail past him into the back of the net like with FIFA, as the ISS goalies have spot on AI. This I find makes the game a lot more enjoyable, it’s also more fun when playing against your friends because when you score you’ll actually feel like you’ve achieved something.
Most of the improvements are small, the players are more responsive, the graphics have been improved and the stadiums now look better than ever before. Although for some it may not have enough improvements to justify upgrading from the previous ISS.
The ISS games are simply the best, and to be honest whatever version of ISS Pro Evolution you get you’ll enjoy it! However if you love football, and you’ve got the cash then ISS Pro Evolution 2 is the game to own.
ISS Pro Evolution 2 is simply the best football game available on any system!
