My mother is thinking about getting a new car, which means I'll be driving it too. Which makes me happy.

Currently trying to work out a decent car which isn't too expensive and has a low insurance group.

At the moment she is considering the new Mini, a 206 or a clio

I want a clio V6 or a honda civic type R but the insurance and the cost of the cars were just too costly :0)

When I get a job though .... :-)

Was just wondering what cars people had (or parents own)
Anyone got any of the above? Reccomend them or advise something else for us to consider?

I hate looking through websites and magazines as there are far too many cars that look good that I want...

You'll never have a problem with a Volkswagen*. Reliable, good spec and decent warranty. Not too bad price wise either. A Polo would have fairly low insurance and good miles to the gallon, 55 in a 1 litre engine version.

A Golf is obviously a bit bigger and more powerful. And is what Darkus drives, so that might put you off a bit.

Seriously though, I would recommend them.

Got a Rover at the moment, but its had a few problems - half the reason we are looking for a new car.

I thought the mini had quite a low insurance group - apart from the Cooper S which is about 15 I think.

Cheers for the info though, just need to persuade my mum to get one I like too :-)

Oh, and Mini's have quite a high insurance group as I found out. Group 13 for a Standard Cooper model!

If you're going on your Mums insurance (which I'm guessing you will be), I'd recommend the following:

Pug 206 Fever - 1 yr Free Insurance (offer ends March)

Toyota Yaris VVTi - 1 yr Free Insurance (don't know when this runs out)

Renault Clio

Citroen C2 GT/VTR - Nice new car from Citroen. The VTR has steering wheel gear levers too. I want one but I just bought a car :(

All the above are pretty decent-priced and won't sting you on insurance.

If you want to save all round, get a Smart car. Group 2/3 insurance and 700cc engine.

Shop around first, and check carhound.com as they may be able to get you 2 years free insurance on some cars.

Also, make sure the free insurance covers you, being the second driver - otherwise it's a waste of time.

Hope that helped. Doubt it though, it all felt a bit random. But hey, I should be in bed now!
