The Final Destination 3-D

After several films this series has gone for a 3-D upgrade, letting you see the most bizarre and obscure deaths even closer! This was a film that i only saw due to having a cinema unlimited card. I thought, it is in 3-D it might be fun. If you have seen any of the others films you will know exactly what this is all about. For those of you who don’t;

A group of friends are watching speedway, enjoying the day and waiting for a crash to make things more exciting, when one of them has a vision of how things will go wrong and they will all die, along with other spectators. After realising what he has seen he makes a scene and gets people to leave. Sure enough a lot of people die and they survive, all lucky to be alive........ not exactly, it seems death has a list, and when your time is up, there is not much you can do about it. Everyone who was meant to die at the accident is now having to watch their step as anything could kill them. The order remains the same and their only hope seems to be breaking the chain, with the visions of how people will die, a small group of survivors try save everyone again.

I always liked the plot idea in Final Destination films, maybe after the second it was a bit repetitive, but nonetheless it is an enjoyable horror which goes for the gore factor. Most of you will probably be more interested in how it looks with 3-D, well not too bad, there are no major stand out moments but just a few poles that stick through people and appear closer to you, or some object that has come flying towards you. It all seemed a bit lame to me, almost rushed and they just wanted to try jump on the 3-D train as early as possible. I find 3-D more fun than 2-D of course and it is a novelty to watch this kind of film in that environment, so it is worth a look if you are a fan of the series or 3-D films. Do not expect to be blown away by the experience!

Average 3-D, ok plot, and you guessed it, pretty average casting and acting. A lot of times it seemed very badly performed by the cast. Not saying i could do better but there was a lack of connection that i enjoy to see in horror films – it was like they really did not mind that their friend just had his bowels sucked out by a swimming pool cleaning machine. I have often found this kind of thing in all the Final Destination films and was often a let down for me.

I actually found myself laughing at most the deaths because how they were worked out, they would be as far fetched as someone leaving their glasses near a window to cause a fire on some wood shavings that got blown by the wind and caught on fire quicker than gas, then this would result in a nail gun falling and firing randomly. It was funny more than shocking and it seemed they tried o concentrate what little effort there was on the 3-D more than anything but gave that too little time.

So this is really a novelty film that you will want to see in 3-D or not at all, however, with the added £1.50 for the glasses, i would think twice of paying near £10 to see this!

5/10

Oh but then again, the Avatar trailer in 3-D was very rewarding and was time better spent than the actual film. Roll on December!
