Just thought I'd give you all a friendly warning of an EBAY scam that's been doing the rounds. My girlfriend's Dad keeps getting emails claiming to be from EBAY asking him to confirm his password and account details - the catch is that the email is formatted like an official EBAY newsletter. There's another one for PcyPal that uses a similar method. Now look back at that last sentence and notice how I spelt "PayPal" - that's how they can trick you. There's also a bug in IE that can allow your browser to display "http://www.paypal.com", but it can actually be a fake site. Not sure if there's a patch to fix this yet, I don't think there is. Anyone else got these emails?

They're as old as e-mail it's self, Hotmail gets stung with them all the time. A lot of the banks now have warnings all over their sites as you log on to warn you of similar practices.

If you check the security certificate on any dodgy log on it'll keep your right. However, as these things are pretty easy to spot, you shouldn't really even need to go that far.

The new email with eBay stationery used has been going around about a month.

Forward any spoof emails to [email protected] because it helps eBay track down the source of them then delete them. The flaw in IE doesn't matter as Paypal's site will always be https and not http.

I think a bank in austria was hit by a similar thing but instead when you typed in there URL you where redirected to a fake site that had exactly the same source code (They had got it of the internet) and prople put in there username and password. The stole serveral millions of pounds before they where cought I think.
