Bobby Robson has revealed the Newcastle United job will be his last - and backed Alan Shearer to replace him. Alan Shearer will have a long time to wait because Robson still hopes that he will be at St James' Park for another three years.

In the final three years of his illustrious career, he has vowed to the St James' faithful that he will bring silver back to the club.

He revealed that the being the newcastle manager will be his last job last night on "on side".

During his career, as a manager, he has benn to two world cups, managed Barcelona, been to numerous other countries and nearly brought home the world cup in Italia 90.

Shearer will be in the running to eventually take over from Robson, but the manager wants his striker to concentrate on playing for the time being.

He stated that Shearer would be ideal for the job because he is a local boy with stacks of experience.

On the programe he also had some good advice for Sven Goran Erikkson and that is to do a three letter word, and that is W-I-N. I think this is good advice and the veteran has certainly not lost his sense of humour.

I wish Bobby Robson all the best because I have a lot of respect for him. I'm not entirely sure if Shearer would do well as a manager, I guess only time will tell.

Prime example, mr Vialli, good player, nice enough bloke but crashed and burned when he became the manager.

Bob Robson was execellent on the show last night. What happened to Brian Clough ?. I thought he was also due to appear.

Shearers days do look numbered. He has had so many injuries in recent seasons. I think he knew that he would lose his England place due to fitness and that is why he retired from the International scene so early. My gut feeling is that he would NOT make a good manager. I always thought it was a strange choice to name him captain as I do not think he motivates those and he always struck me as being a selfish player. As for being a manager he does not strike me as being an ideal candidate for such a big job as Newcastle. Not many managers who are thrown into a big job for their first managerial experience seem to do very well. He would be better off going to somewhere like Hartlepool and learning the managerial job.
