There's this tree that was planted just a few metres outside my front door a few years ago - maybe 5-7 years.
Anyway, it's kinda been a thing for my mum to look over it - if any kids started swinging on the branches, which they have many a time, she'd shoo them away.
Well, the council were round a few days ago cutting off aalll the branches, and aaalll its leaves - because it had grown so tall it was hitting power/telephone cables above.
Which makes me think - did they not sort of think, "Hmm, trees grow upwards. So what's above? Some cables and stuff. Meh, let's plant it anyway."
Stupid council people with their luminescent yellow vans. Grr.
All it is now is a big pole like thing, with little stubby branches a few cm's long.
Tress grow taller in a greater "fight" to get to the sunlight.
Yes, trees grow upwards. But, in more crowded areas, where, for example, there is less-space for growing and several are all trying to grow at once; over time, each will try to grow taller than the other - to get to the sunlight first and have it all to themselves.
But, if you plant one in a very open area, with plenty of growing-space, it will not grow as-tall as it could've, and the branches will sprout from lower down the tree.
Okay. I'm just showing-off now... :P
Poor tree.
