there are a few things that were changed for the movie and sometimes the japanese to english translation isn't all it could be but it's a fabulous book.
it's brilliantly layed out into many small chapters and you WILL find yourself flicking ahead to see how long the next chapter is and if you have time to read it... and you won't have time at all. but you'll still read it, the world can wait.
i got stuck into it about an hour after i finished "Dude where's my country" and contrast in styles made it even more enjoyable :)
it's a bonus if you've seen the movie, purely because the aesthetic of the island isn't really dealt with in the book, but if you know what their surroundings look like and you can apply the book to the locale then it's mesmorising.
what's worrying is when you consider how the author could've researched how the human body behaves when it tries to roll down an embankment with a large sickle protruding through the face :)
