It will only work if you have an ADSL or cable modem that connects to things via ethernet sockets already.
In other words if you use ADSL and have it connect to the PC through USB, then it won't work.

I can vouch for the Netgear MA111 I've got one and I love it, extremely easy to set up and quite smart looking. The only problem is speed when transfering files across the network, but I suppose it is just the limitation of 11B - the rest of my stuff is 11G.
