Complicated title I know, in English:

I only have a laptop, and rather than buy an expensive internal DVD burner I would like to get an internal one for a PC and power it from the USB port. Suppose it would be complicated reagrding drivers etc also, prehaps it's a poor idea ?

Thanks

The HD enclosure is only £35. Compare that and the cost of an internal drive to that of an external one.

I have both USB2 & Firewire but will wait and get a "proper" external one once the prices drop a bit, thanks for your help.

I used a IDE-USB2 HD enclosure for the internal drives I had for my old PC. While it was designed for HDs, you could easily leave the oover off and connect the CD ROM/DVD drive to the enclosure. It still works in XP as normal.

I think you can get a casing which houses the drive and then I think it uses either Firewire or USB2. But as pointed out you can already get external DVD burners, so its probably best to get one of those rather than messing around with internal drives and housing cases. One thing is looking at the external Sony DRX-510UL it does seem its only USB2 or Firewire connections. So before you buy make sure you have at least one of these connections available. If its a new Laptop and top spec then you may have both. If the Laptop is quite old then you might not have any.

There's some External DVD Burners there for you to check out. Could probably get cheaper elsewhere though.

You can get USB drive enclosures, although I'm not certain they would work on this sort of thing. You can also get external drives, which may still be cheaper and easier to get than an internal laptop drive.

Over the years I've become very jaded after many bad experiences with customer services, you have bucked the trend. Polite and efficient from the Freeola team, well done to all involved.
Brilliant service.
Love it, love it, love it!
