I know this really isn't an intelligent topic but I just wondered if anyone knew why Travis's album 12 Memories is full of songs with really morbid lyrics. For example -

Now that I need you,
You're going away,
Everyday,
Sinking in the quicksand,
Follow me down the drain...

15 million civillians,
Gonna die today,
Look the wrong way,
Read it in the papers,
watch it on the T.V.
Stick it in the back ground...
Stick it in the back, stick it in the back,

You say you love me,
Then you do it again,
You say you're sorry,
Then you do it again,
And again, and again and again...

If I told you a secret,
You wont tell a soul,
Will you hold it,
And keep it, alive,
Because it's burning a hole,
And I can't get to sleep,
And I can't live alone in this life...

This is definitely not as bright and cheerful as their more poppy traditional songs. I much prefer these lyrics and think this is their best album to date but am just wondering if anyone knows why they have taken such and obscure twist?

Actually now I think about it this should probably go in Music but with all the poetry flying about in here I thought some lyrics wouldn't go a miss even if they aint mine. Read the lyrics, by the album and someone explain to me why the change please? Go on :D

If you don't buy the albums, they won't get their record contract renewed and they won't be allowed to record albums for mass distribution. Then they'd have something to whinge about. C**ks.

Because they aren't a cheesy pop band. Most bands have meaningful lyrics, not this "A pizza hut a pizza hut" or "We are the cheeky girls". They write proper music with proper lyrics.

Here here.

Music is about expressing your thoughts, and feelings.
These are their thoughts and feelings.
So be it.

It's nice they've finally decided to say something significant in their lyrics.

IMO, their previous albums were ultimately as bland and pointless as any other pop monkeys you care to mention.
It was just dressed up for a slightly older audience.

So if they've pulled their collective thumbs out, then good.
