The fantastic thing about technology is that it just keeps making life better (well, bar weapon's technology of course) and there are often a bucketful of new inventions each day.

DVD in itself has allowed me the pleasure of having a format that's as close as I can (afford to) get to a cinema at home, but sooner or later this will improve or another format will take its place. Until that time we have another great invention that is the next evolutionary step into DVD, the portable DVD player.

These cute little dudes will let you watch a film on the train, in a car (preferably not while driving) and even on the toilet, if you really can't stand to be away from a screen. A short while ago portable DVD was only affordable by the stinking rich or those that were lucky enough to have inhereted old aunt may's family fortune, but now Panasonic have made a fantastic budget player that can compete with the big boys, but costs only £599! Okay, so most people would still have to think seriously about money like this, but it's hopefully starting the same trend as the standard DVD player and we may well see companies like LG and Proline compete to bring out the first sub £300 portable player pretty soon.

Until that time it's a sure bet that many people will be queuing up for their piece of portable playing power and end up with an audience behind them every time they travel by train. Here's to the future of DVD!
