He'd have been in there for the rest of his life.. he got five life sentences, and five years for forging a will. Heh, when that was announced it made me laugh. You can imagine the courtroom - Shipman is devastated after being given five life sentences, then they tack on five extra years for the hell of it.
But what else had he got to live for? That's what I meant when I didn't feel surprised at all. I think I may have hung myself too.. I don't know if I'd have the courage. But after so many monotonous days inside those four grey walls, it would probably seem the thing to do.
He went on his own terms, and in doing so raked the whole thing up again for the victim's families. Suddenly, the media is buzzing about them again, the last thin they'd want. Cruel and calculating to the last.

I wasn't arguing that that was his motive for doing so.. I said earlier that the relentless life inside his cell and him knowing he would be there for the rest of his life would have given him the strength to do it.
But I do that he went on his own terms. The raking up of the media was mearly a by-product, but one he may have wanted to punish those who had given the evidence that stopped him.
