If, like me, you have a ton of DVDs lying around the house and just can’t remember what you actually own or who is borrowing a title, DVD Profiler might be what you’re looking for.

It’s a useful piece of software which lets you store and keep a track of all your DVD and Blu-ray discs, but it’s far more than just a database. The software is connected to a huge server of DVD information and just entering a barcode or title from a DVD will allow you to store the cast and crew, pictures, plot and even any easter eggs found.

The list is also viewable online, meaning that you can easily look it up any time a friend asks you if you have such and such a title. It’s a handy system which I’ve now come to rely on.

DVD Profiler can also let you store information about where you bought the DVD, how much it cost and compare this to the Recommended Retail Price. It’s a neat little feature, even if you don’t make that much use of it.

Even better, you can do all sorts of charts and graphs based on what genre, actors and age ratings your DVDs have among other things. For DVD enthusiasts who are in to their number crunching this is an ideal system! Users can also upload changes and new images, plus DVD information for any DVDs which might not be on the system, but you’ll find that even titles which have come free with the newspaper make it on to the database.

Obviously all of this comes with a price, the free version of DVD Profiler lets you try all the features above but then limits them as soon as you reach 50 DVDs. Cost after this is $20 (about £17) which is a one off payment that entitles you to any future versions of the software and full access to make changes and support the database.

It is limited to DVD/HDDVD and Blu-ray though and doesn’t yet support games. There is a separate mobile version as well, which can import and export DVD databases to the full software but this requires a separate one off payment to unlock.

So for anyone who needs to catalogue their DVD collection and get more control over your DVDs, DVD Profiler is a great piece of software.
