Hi,
I am planing on gettting a Western Digital Caviar 80GB Special Edition 8MB Cache (OEM) to replace my old Western Digital Caviar 450AA 45GB. I was wondering wherther the Western Digital Caviar 80GB Special Edition 8MB Cache is a good drive, and also how would I do a drive image onto the new one so that i can remove the old and it will run as it is now?

Many Thanks
S.A.

Yes that's what I used.

I have had 3 Maxtors and they've all given me no problems whatsoever and very good performance. The one in my server is still tickling after 3 years 24/7 usage. I cained it a bit back in the day as well.

Very mixed opinions on them. Shop I work in wont even sell them any more as we had some many returned one time. I've got a lot of bad sectors on mine, and can see it failing soon - Stick to seagate/WD imo.

Nah, Maxtor are safe as houses in my experience.

I mean I want to transfer the whole hard drive as it is. Can PartitionMagic do that?

I would get a Maxtor if I was going for a SATA but I have heard some bad things about there normal ATA drives.

Personally I recommend Maxtor DiamondMax +9 models (with 8mb caches).

I used PartitionMagic to transfer my operating system to my new drive.
