Right.
A while ago, I got a drumkit, but it didn't last long in my house.
I sold it off again, as;

A) It was taking up far too much room in the house (we have no garage, no cut off bit of house - nothing)

B) The main reason - too loud.

We live in a semi-detachted house, so also, it's not just in my parents' interest, but my neighbours' also.

So, the question.

Electric drumkits.

I've heard from other drummer that they are the bane of the drumming world, and that I should steer miles clear of them.
But I'm down to my final options.
I'm desperate.
I need practice.

I'm not bothered about all these effects, eg double bass peddle effect etc.
I just want to be able to play.

Yes, I know I haven't asked the question yet, but you've probably already guessed.

Any good?
Considering my scenario, that is.
Cheers/

Well, that's not strictly true now, is it Freakboy? If I had some kid smashing away with retarded rhythm next door to me, I'd wrap the kit round his face. The only thing the kid could have done to prevent it is to point his sticks at me in a threatening manner - that beats anyone hands down.

I think it'd take the essence out of drumming as a whole with a leccie kit.

And hey, if you neighbours are complaining, tell them to go and anally penetrate themselves on a piece of rigid barbed wire. They have no power over you until 11pm, thats when they can get the police etc to come and tell you to be quiet.

If you're going to buy an electric one, you might as well just hit some cardboard boxes! Surely it's about practicing your timing, doesn't matter what sound it makes. Sticks and boxes will do for that.

You can get some decent leccie drum kits, a bandmate has one for practising at home but it cost a f**k of a lot of money. It's all cushoned so it makes nothing in the way of noise, BUT can be hooked up to an amp and be even louder than real drums.

Pros
You cant stab the drumstick through the skin
Solves your problem of noise
Takes less room

Cons
Lower sound quality
Expensive.

The pros outweight the cons, go buy one but consult me first.

You can get mufflers for normal drumkits. Electro ones are OK, but when you go to play a proper one again it feels all...weird. And you get no gauge of subtlety, or rolling the sticks - you'll be all off!

Yeah, 2.
One is ripped to shreds, the other is high quality.

Thing is though, I don't want people sauntering past me etc, and walking in and out the room.
Plus, I want to be able to just try out new stuff, and mess around on it (seriously though, ie, new styles and the likes).

And I'd want to be able to just play whenever I wanted, for example, late at night maybe, or in the morning at weekends etc.

Doesn't your school have a drumkit? Every school has one, right? I'm guessing it'd be crap, and ripped to pieces, though. Meh.

"We live in a semi-detachted house, so also, it's not just in my parents' interest, but my neighbours' also."

I know that made no sense, so don't lynch me.
