That's right, it did! It was scratching up a piece of furniture that I don't like being scratched up, so I threw my hat at it, and the hat just kinda flopped over it's back and stayed there. Then the cat was walking around making cat noises, but the hat didn't fall off for quite a while. Next time it scratches up my bookcase it'll be wearing a brick.

Yeah but cats don't like being told what to do. We got one for our cat, it had string around it and everything - she didn't touch it. She still tears up the sofas and chairs.
Can't you get bits of wood that are like really really durable (a hard wood, obviously. Dunno names of trees - I'm not a gardner) for them especially to scratch at and stuff?
