I know this is not the newest film, but I recently bought this on DVD after seeing it on Holiday again. I had forgotten how much I really like this film, so I figured why not write a review. For those of you who are unaware about this film, in this DreamWorks animates film; Jack Black plays a Panda who works with his dad (who somehow happens to be a duck!?!) in a noodle kitchen, his dad’s famous “special ingredient” noodle soup is loved all over. But Po the Panda dreams of more than working in the kitchen. Po wants to join the elite martial arts group who have been trained to become the dragon warrior, the furious five. On the day when the new dragon warrior will be chosen to protect the valley village, everyone goes to the top of the mountain where the five train. Po is last to make it up the hill and fails to get in to the courtyard to see the ceremony but after various different ways of trying to sneak a peek and failing, he but luck ignites a set of fireworks under a chair and gets blasted into the sky, falling right as the turtle master is about to choose the new dragon warrior. Po happens to fall right in front of the turtle master and is deemed the new dragon warrior. Who is to fight the evil Tai-Lung, a former student who turned evil with greed when he was not chosen as the dragon warrior.
So that is the basic plot in the film and the main emphasis on the film is how Po is not wanted by any of the five or his martial arts master due to his size and being a very clumsy Panda, as you would expect from Jack Black, it is a animated film which actually succeeds in including humour. It is on a childish level but it is still a good performance from Jack Black that will make you smile. The cast for this film is able to rival any other, with Lucy Lu, Seth Rogen, Dustin Hoffman and Angelina Jolie just to throw in some. Having the higher budget stars is certainly a good move on the finished product, I would have to probably say as animated films go, and this is in my top 3 at least. Funny story, mindless humour and it is just an enjoyable film you can sit back and watch time and time again.
If you are yet to see this film then you should be able to pick it up for around £6 in most places and I have to say I have seen it about 3 times in the past month due to enjoying it so much. It really is one for kids and adults, it is filled with awesomeness all the way until the end. Only negatives i guess you can include are that it is not that long, very predictable and offers little depth. It really is just a good film to have on in the background but i am sure anyone with kids will find this is a favourite among them. So a really good film but possibly too simple to score any higher than;
7.5/10
