A soundtrack really makes a film come alive, choose a great one and your film is filled with far more emotion. The outcome is that many songs become memorable if you feel a connection with the film.

So, with this in mind, I have proposed to find out what your favorites are, giving my own favorites as a starter:

1) Movie Soundtrack
As an album, most of the soundtracks by Thomas Newman are superb, including Pay it Forward, The Shawshank Redemption and The Green Mile. The best of these is probably The Shawshank Redemption, a powerful set of instrumentals for a powerful film.

2) Movie Song
There are so many songs that are made famous by movies, most recently 'Mad World' from Donnie Darko, which is my current favorite, but worth a mention is The massive Queen song 'Who Wants to Live Forever' from Highlander and The spooky 'Burn' by The Cure from The Crow Soundtrack.

3) TV Soundtrack/Song
There have been so many TV themes over the years, but none stir up emotion like the Theme Music to The Incredible Hulk series. The haunting Piano will remain a classic TV Theme forever.

For movie soundtrack, I might say a Tarantino movie, but a song's too hard.

Aye, Tarentino soundtracks are usually top-notch.

I think that's because more often than not they're songs from his own personal collection rather that songs "inspired by the movie" by "today's biggest stars".

The Kill Bill Vol 1 soundtrack is excellent, varying between a number of styles, and the Ironside tune features too (as it does in the movie).

As for individual songs from movies, Jim Carrey singing 'Somebody To Love' during The Cable Guy is an outstanding moment. Makes the current staggered version that's doing the rounds sound like the pointless piece of crap that it is.

TV theme tunes, I agree with pb, that piano music from the Incredible Hulk always hit the spot, but most old TV detective shows also had top themes. The forementioned Ironside for one, and then there was a little show called Hawaii 5-0. Ba-ba-ba-ba-baaaa-ba ba-ba-ba-ba-baaaa

"Why not just make 10 louder?"
"But, these go up to 'AAAAAAAAAAARGH'!"

Yeah Star Wars have always had amazing soundtracks.

the sound effects and huge orchestra pieces are just amazing. When watching episode 2 I always have it set to 'AAAAAAAAAAARGH' volume, especially that chase through the asteroid field.

what sound do those charges make? "BWWWOUMMMMM" or something like that.

great.

Yeah, that's cool (if a bit depressing) Can't wait for Series 3 to start playing on C4, Love HBO stuff I do (also, can't wait for Elephant - rewatched the trailer last night knowing it was about Columbine, it's kinda haunting)

Charlies Angels has a great soundtrack. Laugh if you want people, but it's what made the film a hell of a lot more enjoyable.

Oh yeah, and Duel of The Fates is cool. Very dramatic...
