I'm going to try and address why I believe the Dolphin will be a success, to help me do so I will look at some of the mistake made by nintendo with the n64

Problem: Unbalanced Specs - The n64 was desigined to have more memory than it did but because the most expensive and fastest memory was purchased the amount dropped to a measly 4MB
Solution: All round high specs, a 400MHz Gekko G4 (upto 4 times the speed of a pentium 400MHz), 16MB SRAM + unknown amount of main memory with 3.2 GB/s bandwith

Problem: Storage - The n64 used catridges which were expensive to manufacture and could not hold much data
Solution: The n64 is using a propreitry DVD format, physically smaller than a normal DVD. This means much larger amounts of data
at a cheaper cost

Problem: 3rd party support
Solution: Developers are actually approching nintendo due to the fact the console is easier to write for than the PS2

Problem: Polygon power - Because the n64 produced better effects it could only produce approximatley half the polygons on screen that the PSX could
Solution: The dolphin will be able to push 4 million more polygons per secound than the PS2

Now without arguing could someone post the benefits of the other upcoming consoles, PS2 and X-box

Very true, its nintendos origniallity that have saved them from the problems of missing developers, but the Dolphin is already set to have almost as much support as the PS2, so with nintendo, rare, silicon knights AND good 3rd party support nintendos 2n64s:3psxs is going to increase rapidly.

I'm sorry but you seem to have no knowlege of the market pre-playstation, developers make or brake a console so they won't go with the most popular console, they go with the one they want to program for, thats why the PSX succeeded and the saturn failed, the saturn was more difficult to program for. Despite segas fan base sony won, the same thing happening again is perfectly plausable!
Besides keep upto date, many developers are distressing dismay with the PS2 and the Dolphin already has more 3rd party support than the n64 did.

"Games makers want to money" you say. That's true, but thanks to Sony, many companies are out to make money, regardless of whether they contribute to the gaming industry. EA is the biggest example. If the PS2 does not become laden will sequels, and offers more originality than its predecessor, there is a faint possibility I will choose it ahead of Nintendo's effort. But it's unlikely, as with Nintendo, you are guaranteed inventiveness.

Sorry to argue, but those points are useless. I believe that, like Sega, Nintendo has definately fixed its mistakes. Except for 2 that is:

1) Too late. Why would developers make games for the console when the PS2 has a larger user base? Games makers want to make money- the PS2 has the best chance of this, simply becasue the PSX was so popular. Okay, the Dolphin may be easier to program for, and does graphics and lighting really well, but what developer would go out of the way to make games for it. By sticking to Sony developers get grants, and cheaper publishing costs!

2) Popularity. Just look at the Dreamcast. There is nothing on the PS2 that could not be done on the DC, yet people still don't buy it. Why? Because it's not got Sony's brand name.

Possibly what will save the dolphin is that people will be tired of the PS2s. However, the Dolphin launches in the west at the same time as the Xbox, and with $0.5 bn of advertising, MS arn't giving up easily.
