I would like to know when the prices of computer games are going to fall to a level at which teenagers like moi can buy them. I remember when Mario 64 was released at the same time as the N64 console, costing a hefty £59.99. This price tag was put on many other games which followed in quick succession of Mario 64, and my bank account was quickly drained.

Looking in CVG, I distinctly remember one article showing how much it costs games' companies to produce one of their games. I can't remember the exact price, but the amount that went on taxes and for the profits was astounding. Being a person who is drawn to nearly every game that hits the market which is classified as a "Star Game", I think that it is about time that the Platinum range was brought to every console, from the very start of a game's life on the market. You extremely cool people (who I hope will pick me as a likely candidate for the Gameaday prize seeing as I have never had much luck with competitions, and I am desperate for a copy of Perfect Dark)are probably shouting at the computer screen saying that there is no point in releasing a game unless you are going to make a large profit out of it, but I believe that they would make a larger profit by selling loads at a lower price than less at a higher price, and the gaming world would generally be happier too.

So let's see those prices released at the bargain prices that Special Reserve offers the games at, and I may consider buying more games in the future.

You say that your glad Nintendo are going to DVD so that you can get pirated games. Well as you should know that you can't copy FF8 because of some new technology they've got well it's going to be like that for the Dolphin and PS2 so that people won't be making me money from games they should be making money off, so sorry mate if you get the PS2 or the Dolphin you'll have an empty wallet after buying some games

Well you are right, console games are all too expensive, you get high costs for Nintendo 64 games of around £50 which means that most folks will only be able to get a new game every few months and for the Playstation games are just not worth the prices charged. Of course the best gaming system for games prices (as far as i can see) is the PC, but guess what: you're going to have to fork out some 600 quid for a decent PC to begin with. So what do we do? well the upcoming X-Box is to have prices as cheap as PC games and also as good quality and as an added advantage for anyone with vast amounts of spare cash just lying around in a bucket near the fireplace, it will probably have some sort of system for downloading things onto yuor PC to use with X-Box products. Of course this isn't much help and i'm afraid that forking out large sums of money to obtain our gaming platforms and then more large sums to buy games for it (remember about 2 new N64 games costs the same as the console) is the only thing we can do right now. Still, if these games companies are making so much profit, then why is Looking Glass (The makers of the popular Thief and Thief2) going out of business? Well as far as i can see cheap console games are a long way off, but as a PC owner i am happy to be getting great games at fair prices, especially from Special Reserve!

I seem to get the impression that the person who wrote the original article is an N64 owner- talking about Mario 64 and Perfect Dark. The N64's biggest problem is that the carts are so expensive to make (£5 each, compared to 1p for a CD), and Nintendo are the only people who make them. Also, since nintendo publish the games, they charge high rates, and these are pushed up by retailers who know that they can all charge £50 a game.

My advise to the writer is 2 fold. Firstly, the N64 was not the right console to buy. Even a platinum game costs £35ish, nd this is OTT. The PSX has new games for this price and its games are just as good in most areas (with better driving sims and beat 'em ups, but worse multiplayer. Obviously, you already have an N64, so this is not an option. Secondly, buy from the net. The best site is Simplygames.co.uk. They will beat ANY price, and usually have special offers (eg, ANY [new or old] PSX game = £20). Also, their prices include free next day delivery.

At the end of the day, most games companies are out there to make a great big, quick profit, namely people like EA with regular FIFA 'updates'. It's also because Nintendo take such a large slice out of the 40 old quid you pay, that N64 publishers have to up the price to make the amount they want. By lowering prices, they would also dissuade people from turning to pirated software. The one big reason why people (including myself) go for illegal software is because they offer more games at a very reduced price. I mean, 16 PC games for £3, that'll do nicely, and that was two years ago. The only drawback is that the quality is not so good, but the price more than balanced that out. Now that Nintendo has turned to DVDS, I hope it means pirated software will be, for once, cheaply and readily available for a Nintendo system. You may see this as something bad, but if it wasn't for piracy, then those big companies would be ripping us off even more.
