"Nintendo Not Happy With Retailers...
...that will show promotional X-Box material.
The Japanese giant is presumably employing spoiler tactics, as they're warning US retailers that their position with Nintendo will be jeopardised if they advertise X-Box's first-time console. Sound familiar? Sony have been accused of much the same thing in the past few months, although we don't think Ninty will stoop to the same levels as Sony, who allegedly have been ripping up and trampling on X-Box displays. Allegedly."
So. Pot, kettle, black anyone? :-)
And for those new to the forums - I didn't agree with Sony doing it, either.
As for 'stooping to the same levels'... a threat is a threat.
I really should stop posting... :)
:-) You were only reporting it, not claiming it...

A typical DR news item then. I must admit I only posted it to get a reaction. Today has been busy, and now I find myself at a loose end, and bored... :-)
Though I don't necessarily agree with the practice, I'm not that bothered whether Sony or Nintendo were actually doing it or not. People will buy what they want to buy, and tactics be damned, IMHO.

It doesn't mention X-Box by name, but it's pretty obvious what they mean. And understandable, too - despite some didgy English in places!
As to whether or not it's 'threatening', I suppose that depends on interpretation. It's not overtly threatening in a "sell X-Box and we'll break your legs" kind of way, but I can see that it *might* be taken as a mild 'warning'; only if you're very sensitive though!

Nintendo? Advertise? Why break the habit of a lifetime?! ;-p

As we agreed at the time, I believe.
Who could that be?... :D
I'm defending Nintendo here... but only with facts.
This has, without being biased, really, been blown out of proportions.
The letter does not once even mention X-Box... and it is not in the very least bit threatening!
Here's a link to the letter.

Secondly... what if, instead of complaining, Nintendo decided to market the Gamecube as well?
Then Sony would be up in arms... Telling them to only advertise what is available for the moment, I think, is a good way to go, mainly for Sony as well!
On the Sony thing, nothings really come out of that, so I expect it really nothing more than a rumour.
