Final Fantasy IX is causing trouble in the nation with shopkeepers. The game has gone on sale for £39.99, and has led to several store chains refusing to stock it because they believe that it won't sell at such a high price. Many shops have resorted to selling it for £29.99, making a measly £2 per game they sell.

With the PS1 available for £70, how can companies justify charging £40 for one game? It's ridiculous to expect the consumers £40 for a PS1 game. The majority of gamers with a bit of will power (unlike myself :|) will wait for the price to come down - if it doesn't, then the game just won't sell as well as it should, because it is a fantastic game.

The main point is, how can compnies justify selling games at this extortionate price?

In their defence, the publishers said,

*quotes the mag*

"FFIX stands out. It's a four disk product, the last of the 'Final Fantasy' series on PS1, and shows Square is putting it's money where its mouth is, not just in terms of of the huge production values of the game, but the marketing campaign as well."

*me now*

So, to summarize what they said in their defence, they said the following;

"four disk product" - What difference should this make to the price? Don't disks cost next to nothing to burn anyway?

"last of the Final Fantasy series on PS1" - So they think just because it is the last one, it gives them an excuse to con all there loyal customers?

"marketing campaign" - It seems to me that the high price is paying for the marketing campaign and all the other stunts that Square pulled for Final Fantasy IX.

Ah, goodo. Nice to see some honesty.

It is a rip-off. PS1 games, IMHO, should now be down to around £25. I know they still need to make their money, but a PS1 game should not cost the same as a PS2 game. In fact, £39.99 is MORE than some PS2 games!

Much of this is from a magazine! Though I can't remember which one - I'll have to have a look when I get home tonight.
