What makes a classic game?
Is it the gameplay and longlivity?
Or the stunning graphics?
What will be the future classics and why?

I think a classic consist of originality, excellent gameplay that has replay value, and is something that appeals to a wide range of ages,e.g. OutRun. I'm still playing OutRun now and I enjoy it just as much as I did all those moons ago.

Oh, and does anyone remember Virtua Racing?

Not true.

For example: Ikaruga, Skies Of Arcadia: Legends.

I think that for a game to become a classic, it has to be relaively advanced for its age, good fun, have a decnt amount of longevity and have graphics that will look quirky 10-20 years later. For example, Outrun, Railroad Tycoon and Scorcherd Earth.

However, the games that we are playing now which are advanced and good fun like Vice City and Max Payne II are sure to become classics in the future.

A whold horde of factors, including those mentioned. Additionally, things like timing, fresh ideas, innovative technology and features can help. Goldeneye is a prime example of this.

I always go for the gameplay. Games like Mario Kart:DD, Fifa 2004 and Need for Speed are allgreat games to play, but I bet they all won't finish in the top 10 games for Gamecube.

Sure the gameplay makes a classic but I think it is also the replay value.
I mean if you have a game its brilliant you complete but then theres nothing else to do you would just sell it.
Take prince of persia I baught and completed it in 2 days so then I just sold but the gameplay is exelent.
Also the multiplayer does help look at party games there made for multiplayers sure they sell as some other games that have multiplayers but they still sell quite well. Look at ooga booga for dreamcast some think its the best game on dreamcast. But some multiplayers arent party games maily pc multiplayers theres counter strike and gunlock command and conker.
But do you need multiplayer to make a classic game?

I think keeping a game quiet from the game media helps. If it just comes out and blows everyone away. Better than having a very high expectation level made by stupid little unofficial magazines.

Classics always popular?!

Skies Of Arcadia on the DC is classic, but how many people have that?

The thing that makes a game a classic is the gameplay. Because nowadays the graphics in Goldeneye are poor. But the gameplay is perfect and as such the game is a classic.

The multiplayer also helps.
