Playstation 2
Most people on these forums don't take too kindly to Sony's Next-Gen machine, I don't know whether it is because is bears the name Playstation or because it hasn't made quite the enterance to the gaming world that people thought it might. But, despite all the negative air about the PS2 there are no doubt, quite a collection of games. Although the games aren't great in number the quality is there. SSX is one of the most graphically sound games around, and although no games are perfect this one sure does come close, and fankly it blows 1080 and Cool Boarders out the water. Timesplitters is also a great game. I kind of see it as Golden Eye re-visited, the way it plays feels more like a Quake Game but the splitscreen multiplayer action, although not original, is the best offered on a console as of late. And Timesplitters jjust goes to show that Sony aren't stuck in the world of 2 players!
The hardware has been known to have it's fair share of preblems...if not more, but if you, like milions of other PS2 owners, can get a non-faulty PS2 then you gaming experience will be top. Frankly I can't see why so many people dislike the console, it looks good, the games are here and good at that, it plays a VERY big majority of all the old PSX games...what more could you want...All I can think of is internal memory! I would seriously think about getting a PS2 if you had the first and are interested in the Second...the price might not be 100% worth it but think about it...you get ripped off everytime you go for a McDonalds!
Nintendo's new handheld is no doubt the most talked about ever. Being able to play Street Fighter in the car is my dream and soon, I will be able to fulfil it. With super Nintendo classics like F-Zero and Mario not forgeting all the old GBC games, this is any Ninty fans dream and it is about to become one BIG reality! I definitely think that the GBA is worth £100, you might be able to get one off your mum for GCSE exam results...maybe not BUT if all else fails then Santa should be able to get you one for christmas...you do believe in Santa.....right?!
The GBA has quite a bit more power than the GBC, and although it isn't a 3D machine the ability of the machine is remarkable. The sound is said to be a lot better and there are more colours than ever. The fact that it plays ood GBC games is VERY good by Nintendo, and a very safe insurance policy for the future. People now will not be afraid to buy GBC games up until release date and so Nintendo are only going to make more profits! Nintendo seem to think that 2001 is the year for them, and with the GBA I certainly think it could be!
Bill Gates - X-Box - Gaming, most of us don't like the sound of that and with his latest hi-jinks of faking Amped pictures that dispise-o-meter isn't going to be able to go anymore into the red. But all complete bias behind, the X-Box, although rather huge, for lack of a better word, could be quite promising for the industry, if Microsoft is in the mix people will be interested, if the X-Box fails then all those people who are there to be a part of gaming because of Microsoft will see the Gamecube PS2 and GBA, and with a bit of luck the industry will be even more on fire than at present!
I don't think that the X-Box will bring anything terrible to the industry and although Windows 98 SE might be the X-Box isn't the 11th plague. Microsoft will only hype the industry, and who cares if they make or lose a couple of thousand $mil in the process!
Nintendo - Masters of innovation, I love them, the games, although they may be kiddy, have that special something about them. It may be Rare or it May be Nintendo, but they certainly deliver, timing is a different story but with Rare and Nintendo games are always worht the wait and to be frank, which I'm not, Nintendo have a VERY good chance of being recrowned this year...it all depends on how things fare for the big 'N' in Japan. Most people buy games because of what other people think, what makes you thik that consoles will be any different?! If the GCN is big in Japan, reports will hit the States then Europe and Nintendo will start the long walk to the throne, BUT if they slip up people might think about other options, and £50 for a Dreamcast doesn't sound too bad!
All in all, it is the games that make the consoles. Games are what let Nintendo down and games are what will be the deciding factor in the future of gaming. But as far as buying a machine goes, buy the one YOU want, ignore the bias comments of Bill and Ben. If you like Nintendo that 'fair do's' as some MIGHT put it, if on the other hand you like Playstation then get the PS2 and ask the local church to pray for you. And if by any chance you are waiting for the X-Box, ignore the scornful looks of EVERYONE else, Get a Dreamcast in the meantime and have fun.
Good post though.
