Yesturday I sheepishly ventured into Waterstones on the lookout for a book, and immediatly one caught my eye. Titled "Twelve", by Nick Mcdonell, seeing as it was only £6.99 I felt I had to get it.
Since then i've read roughly half of the book, And I expect to finish it over the next week, because it's so god damn hard to put down!
Imagine it's a film turned into a book, with chapter after chapter of "jump-cuts" between characters, taking you on a roller-coaster ride of life through a Teenagers point of view in New York. As the title loosely suggests, It's about a fictional drug called "Twelve" and its effect on the culture it surrounds.
Nick Mcdonell has some serious talent, and believe me, it lives up to the hype it was given and boasts an enjoyable read. Chapters are short, choppy and tense, I feel I must reccomend this book to anyone looking for something to read.
Beats watching Bop Idol aswell :D
T'is a good read, Got "A life of Pi" to get stuck into aswell afterwards
> (the ending is AWFUL though - not far off runing the up-to-then
> enjoyable novel)
Yep, I could see it coming from about page 10.
I thought it was alright. Nowhere near matching the hype on the back of the book but enjoyable nonetheless. I can't understand why people thought it was shocking or controversial though. Teenagers having sex, taking drugs and being nasty to each other: who knew?
