Today I got the decision on whether I'll get Incapacity Benefit for the time the tumor on my leg and post-operation recovery time will prevent me working.

I get Nothing. Why? Because I've not paid enough national insurance over the last couple of years.

WTF? What happened to the welfare state? You can only get state benefits if you've paid their premiums?

So because they've not taken enough money from me (enough to turn a profit?) they're going to hang me out to dry with no source of income and no possible chance to earn any?

Why should a person only be supported with the money necessary to live on if they've shown sufficient earning power when able? What is this - Culling the weak?

Perhaps the most messed up thing is this - All through uni I've worked full time every summer, and since finishing (with no decent work available) I've taken any crap unskilled work I've been able to get.
In terms of NI contributions, I've done more than virtually anyone else I know from my uni year.

Further proof that labour have become the tories - if you're making enough money the government's behind you, if you're not they'll leave you dead and burried.

What the... I thought a certain-amount of money was automatically taken out of your earnings when the company pays you and goes straight to the National Insurance, anyway??

I'm sure it's done automatically, and that there is a set-amount...
Well, it's like that for me at work, anyway!

And if you, too, have been `losing´ hard-earned cash to the N.I. on a regular basis, too, I cannot see why they cannot give you what you deserve!

Unless, of course, you haven't been working for the last year-or-so, or something, maybe....?

Anyway, you should definitley write to someone! Whoever it might be...

And if Tony Blair is the man you need to complain to, nothing gets the message across better than what we, here, in Bristol, do by splatting a gert tomato on his back!! ;D

Or a very threatening one to Tony Blair, if you really want to make your point known. :)
