Now then how can I give evidence on why the GamCube will succeed, it isn't because all games developers have projects lined up for it, it isn't because it will be the cheapest console, although that will help a lot, and it isn't because it is Nintendo's console, it is because other console companies have made mistakes!
Sony:
Sony have had amazing sales for the PS2, and rightly so because potentialy it is an amazing console, but were there is success there is failure, Sony damaged all other companies that had there game at launch, damaged them as in put them into a state of panic, even Namco lost millions and they had one of the best selling games of the lot. Too few machines and too many launch games were the worst combination for the PS2, another factor is that it had its DVD player, some people brought it for the player and just wanted to play there good old PS games, the fact is that Sony aren't doing bad at all but all its friends are getting beaten up because of the console, they aren't making any money no matter what the game, and when the people turn around and say what about Metal Gear Solid 2, I say
What about it?'
have you played it?
have they finished it?
is it out?
will it be too late by then?
are there any other games which have been damaged by hype?
MGS2 may be damaged by hype?
I heard they were having difficulties finishing it!
I have nothing against the PS2 it has potential but I can't see many companys being bothered in 6 months time when they aren't making any money and every PS2 owner is waiting for just ONE game.
Microsoft:
Well what can I say about the company I detest, I will try and give a fair opinion. Microsoft are going to enter the world of gaming with a console that I classify as a PC, it has a hard drive, it has the Internet, it has the specs of something that scientists have been working on for years and it has a problem, it is a Microsoft product,
The X-Box will succeed, it will succeed in the department of sales, but it won't succeed in the department of company profits, everyone here knows the facts, Microsoft need to sell 50 games and a console by 2005 for them to make any sort of profit, well I don't see them doing that, I have never brought 50 games for a console in three years, especially if the games are £45 each. Okay, so lets give microsoft a fair shot, they are trying something new and wherever there is a 'Bill there is a way'.
Good luck to them.
Gamcube:
Lets put the GBA away for a minute and I will concentrate on GC and why it will succeed, the GC will succeed because of others mistakes, I have already said this so here is another reason, where there is a mario game there is millions of sales, ( fact:people are more likely to recognise Mario then Mickey Mouse)
GC has the games, it has the developers and Nintendo aren't rushing, they will be quite happy to watch there handheld succeed and make them billions along with Pokemon then release something before its due date, the GC won't fail because Nintendo has the biggest fan basing in Japan and that is the centre of games for the world. It has strong support in America and I know what console I would pick here in the UK for £160.
I don't feel like typing anymore as I think everyone should know the reasons for the GC's success. Just think about the others failing for a minute and stop looking at every move that the Big N do.

Anyway, good points, the X-Box certainly is a mini-PC and I doubt anyone could be fooled into thinking otherwise (but what's wrong with that?). The thing is that Microsoft could afford to lose money on their console, they might be smarter to have cheaper games and make a bigger loss so that they can try to force the console companies to risk their necks to keep up. They could probably afford it and it may well be a good way to try and push the competition out of the way. The X-Box does have the advantage of a wide range of interested parties who have made excellent PC games and/or have good potential, plus the X-Box will be capable of some impressive stuff (not that the others wont). Wasn't the X-Box going to be upgradeable or something too?
Don't get me wrong, I expect the Gamecube will succeed (and I'm pretty sure i'm going to get one) and indeed I hope it will.
Another thing I must say is that i'm not quite sure what you mean by Sony scaring people into losing money? You mean that games developers are worried they wont make a profit if they make games for the PS2?
MGS2 being highly hyped doesn't mean it wont be good. Remember that things like Quake and Deus Ex were greatly hyped and they held true to their hype and even surpassed it (at least in the case of Deus Ex).
Anyway, there they are and you're welcome.
;(
