To be honest, this is more of a discussion with the people who've seen the film, but still.

Well, I wasn't disappointed. It was amazing on a scale even the first two didn't manage. However, I was surprised by the departure from the book. I'm sure book devotees will agree with me when I say that it goes against the entire grain of the sotry to have Frodo trust Gollum over Sam. But that's what happens. Really really surprising. Apart from that, it's small differences, like Celeborn departing at the same time as Galadriel, when we all know that he mopes around like a big pansy for ages because he's soft compared to his old lady. And the shining tower of Ecthelion being, basically, a big slab of rock. And Denethor jumping off it like a big fool. Mostly I didn't like the Paths of the Dead bit. In the book, Aragorn pits his will against the Dead, and forces them to do what he says. In the film.

"Fight for me. Go on, what do you say? Oh, please."
"Dunno."
"Go on.My sword is shiny. And Legolas is hot. Gimli wants him."
"It's true, I do."
"Oh, alright then."

But apart from all that, heh, I love it. Superb cinematography and all that technical stuff. I think the Frodo storyline was handled infinitely better than in the Two Towers, when it can get a bit boring at times.
And the orc that looked like a cross between a pig and a guy with elephantitis made me laugh. Also, the charge of the Rohirrim was unlike anything I'd seen in film before. Theoden's spear-touching with his sword - inspired.

Go see it, if only for seeing Agent Smith trying not to blub like a baby in the background while his daughter sucks face with Viggo.

But you gotta admit, they only went so far away from the book so it would appeal to the non fan, but it was a very cool movie. Better than the first two, although they could've added more tensness (is that a word?) in the battles instead of fight fight fight. I liked the line - "That still only counts as one" - good computer graphics and looked amazing. That pig guy also made me laugh. He was such a loser. Ha.
