With expansions in bandwidth and internet technology it will soon be possible to purchase games and download them straight from the internet, cutting out the need for distribution and packaging etc. If this is the case will we see a change in the trend of only larger software companies being able to compete? I imagine it could be possible for independent developers to release games this way at a fraction of the cost, so surely more risks will be taken in the types of games released and we can only benefit.
By the way does anyone know where I can get hold of some source code for any recent games, on any platform?

The main problem with downloading games, or music, from the net as opposed to buying them on media, is that storage on PCs is not very reliable. If you have a CD-Writer then you can always back things up (as I have done with the Freeloader games I've downloaded) but if not, and your PC crashes or you need to reformat, then it's a case of downloading the software all over again.

Anyway, it's just as easy to wait a few days for your game to arrive on a CD, and high bandwidth connections are still far too highly priced.
