This is something that really annoys me. You can go into a shop and buy a game for £30 whether it be for PC, PS2, GC or Xbox. Then after that, for some games you have to pay a monthly subscription fee to play on it! So what's the first £30 for then? I want to just be able to play on a game after I've bought it without having to pay anymore than I already have. If they want to charge people to play on a game they should at least lower the price of the actual game or give it away for free. Does anyone agree that these kind of games are trying to rake too much money in?

I'd never buy a game where I had to pay a subscription fee, mainly because I couldn't afford it and i think some fees are way too high.

The first £30 is for the cost of developing the game, paying the programmers etc and then making some money.

The subscription fees are to pay for the ongoing costs in having servers. I prefer the Xbox Live model where so far all the games that use it are free to use on it, with you just paying a once a year fee. Perfect.

Yes but most online RPGs need to have a charge as they hae thousands of players at once meaning huge servers. Games like SOCOM and other non MMORPG games have 16 max, meaning, no huge servers.

I'm horrified they are charging for the new Final Fantasy game, look at SOCOM, they dont need to charge, so yes, it is about too much money.

I think he's talking about games like RPGs (mainly for the PC) where you have to pay like £5 a month to play online.

Well, no as the charges to the company of setting up and running the online system are pretty damn high - so small fees are neccessary.

And you really can't do anything about it.
I suppose you could refuse to pay ... but (think about it) I doubt anyone will care if 1 player doesn't want to pay what a million others will.
