I got fed up with my lousy audio setup and decided to go on a massive tweaking spree - and it's so much better! Tons clearer, and it doesn't go all tinny when I turn it up anymore. I'm listening to a song now, that I honestly thought was an instrumental - but it has vocals! They were just hidden behind some stupid low-pass filter.
the main test I perform is to play the tune with the widest range of bass on it (chemical brothers - influenced), turn it up, and see if my guts and intestines resonate. If they do, I'm happy.
Of course, the treble needs adjusting after that, but bass comes first.
