Console only gamers are all just 'casual gamers'...
This isnt to say that if you play games on your console you're a 'casual' gamer... but if the console is your only or primary games machine then that is the best you can hope for...
If I may make an analogy...
You can enjoy watching movies... you can even watch movies every day... but if all your doing is watching Ferris Bueller, Matrix, Star Wars, etc... then your just a casual movie water... not an avid fan...
equally...
You can enjoy playing games... you can even play games every day... but if all your doing is playing basic, less intricate and involving titles, that are largly unconfigurable... then your just bubblegum playing... a 'casual' player...
---
Though the initial outlay for the machine, and subsequent upgrades may be higher. Since every full price game purchased will be £20+ cheaper than the console equivelent, ny the time 5 games have been purchased, you will have saved £100+
UT is only just to be released for the PS2...
However it can be picked up for £5 for the PC.
---
If you cant afford a F1 racing car in the first place... no matter how much you winge and complain bout its cost, you'll never be a F1 driver...
Equally the hardware costs are required to provide the range of tools and abilites provided only by a PC. Arguments that people may not be able to afford the outlay for the machine dont mean that the requirement to be more than a casual gamer should be dropped...
---
The unique opportunities provided by the PC system to tailor games to suit the tastes or requirements of the individual gamer is, in the early 21st century, unique to the machine. No console has ever provided the ability to define the ingame attributes of software as much. Have such an array of software able to suit their specific tastes.
Those of you who are console gamers, discussing the console wars, and the polygon count of the GC Vs XB and are not discussing the future of gaming, just the future of 'casual' gaming.
> 'Shanks I'm with Grix on this one...
A Hardcore gamer doesn't
> have to be someone who plays mostly PC games! It's just like saying
> a hardcore racing fan will only bet on the same horse every race but
> that simply doesn't happen!
No it isnt... its like saying a hardcore Racing Fan mainly bets on Horses...
I'm a hardcore gamer and I play
> mostly Gameboy Color! I also play PC, SNES, N64,m ZX Spectrum and
> other consoles when I'm at my friends houses.
Then your not a Hardcore gamer... you just think you are...
A Hardcore gamer
> and searches the web everyday for any small pieces of news which may
> be important to the future of gaming. I'm a mixture of both of those
> and I'm obsessed with videogames! I'm even hoping to get a job in
> the videogames market but I doubt that'll happen.
But your not willing to go that little bit further though? ... You a gaming enthusiast rather than a Hardcore gamer...
Remember a
> Hardcore gamer plays more than just a PC!
I didnt say he/she didnt...
"A hardcore gamer prefers only one companies machines and will play other machines but will always know that the company they prefer is the best."
Sorry Edgy, but that's rubbish. All that means is that you are biased.
A hardcore player is the one that doesn't matter what console the game is on, as long as it's a good game. The hardcore gamer, if unable to buy all consoles, will make their choice by what games are on the system.
A Hardcore gamer doesn't have to be someone who plays mostly PC games! It's just like saying a hardcore racing fan will only bet on the same horse every race but that simply doesn't happen!
I'm a hardcore gamer and I play mostly Gameboy Color! I also play PC, SNES, N64,m ZX Spectrum and other consoles when I'm at my friends houses.
In my opinion casual gamers are those who play just for fun amd don't care what console they are playing whether it's a PC ro whether it was made by Sega, Sony or Nintendo! They'll play any game that looks good on the box and will have fun every time they play it!
A Hardcore gamer is someone who takes it a lil further! A hardcore gamer prefers only one companies machines and will play other machines but will always know that the company they prefer is the best. If they aren't like that then they'll be the kind of person who buys all the magazines and searches the web everyday for any small pieces of news which may be important to the future of gaming. I'm a mixture of both of those and I'm obsessed with videogames! I'm even hoping to get a job in the videogames market but I doubt that'll happen.
Anyway there are many meanings to casual gamer and Hardcore gamer.
Remember a Hardcore gamer plays more than just a PC!
Surely if you enjoy playing games that's all that's important, and whether you play them all the time, or just now and again, you still have the right to discuss them as keenly as someone else?
> Not exactly... because I discuss PC games as well...
Ahh... yes.. but your not a hardcore gamer 'just' because you play PC games... but you do need to play PC games to become a hardcore gamer...
People who don't get excited that the Gamecube has a
> texture refill rate of 800 million pixels a second, are not casual
> gamers.
>Simple as that.
Or engineers? Mathmatitions? Programmers?
Wouldnt hardcore gamers be more interested in the actual games rather than the specs of the machine...
Prefering to play Marion Kart on the SNES rather than ZOE on the PS2?
(sorry I dont know that many PS2 games)
Casual gamers play not many games.
Hardcore gamers like to talk about games, a lot.
People who talk a lot on this site = Hardcore gamers.
People who don't get excited that the Gamecube has a texture refill rate of 800 million pixels a second, are not casual gamers.
Simple as that.
