Peter Jackson recently said that "after how much fun visiting middle earth was I would love to do a Hobbit film, it depends what new line can do about it."

The Hobbit is a great book, a journey of comical proportions with an epic finale.

But that was the ONLY thing in the book that made me laugh out loud and was probably my favourite bit of speech... But no, they made unfunny. It could have easily been done funny.

So Peter Jackson on the telly this morning saying the rights to the hobbit are owned by a different film company, so in order to get it done a lot of lawyers would have to come to an agreement. In short, as he summed up, it's never going to happen.

I instantly never liked the LOTR films when Gandalf didn't jump up and shout "Melon".

Nooo! instead they had to have bilbo ask "What is the elvish for 'friend'". Pffft.

The problem about making the Hobbit into a film is the fact it offers little that we've not already seen (or will see in ROTK). Also if either Ian Holm (who will be too old to play a younger Bilbo) or Sir Ian McKellan (who IS Gandalf) are unable or unwilling to reprise their roles, then the film will already be struggling (people are a fickle horde).

I'd hate to watch the film if they've taken the "comedy" approach that Gimli has been lumbered with in LOTR.

That would be pants.

The book is crap. Mainly because it's a children's book written extremely condescendingly. Very annoying and extremely slow at points.
