It's because you have the no cd crack for the previous version of it and the patch over rides it requiring you to have the proper disk or download another crack for the new patch you naughty pirate you

Does anyone know of a 'No CD' patch for Football Manager 2005?

It's quite simple really. Go to Add/Remove programs from the control panel.
Find the game on the list, click it, then hold shift as you select 'uninstall'. This will delete the requirement command for a CD and patch it with the one you downloaded, rather than uninstalling everything.
Once the process is complete, you're all set.
