Just upgraded my PC after my old one blew up. My specs are:

AMD 2600XP Processor
VIA KT4V Motherboard
GeForce FX 5200
40GB HD
256MB RAM

I am running Direct X 9.0 and have installed all the Chipset drivers for my Motherboard and have updated everything that needed to be updated. The problem I am having is with running games, although its not so much a problem as it is a niggle. I can run Max Payne 2 on full settings no problem at all along with a few other top spec new games. The problem however is with the game just cutting out and going back to windows. At first I thought it could be my Monitor refresh rate but after knocking it down to 60hz only to see the same problem occuring again at random points in each game. The game doesn't crash it just cuts me back to windows in a matter of seconds.

Any ideas what the problem could be?

Cheers!

Its not a problem with running or specifications its the random cut outs which after more reading seem to be a bug within the game itself.

Thats what I mean. I might try using best performance to see if the problem still occurs.

A lot of the software I have is designed for Windows 9x/2000. If it was crashing the could be fixed by a patch I wouldn't bother but having searched for people with a similar problem it seems that the majority are just having crashing problems when running on ME/XP.

Just checked some of the settings and most seem to be set to Best image quality instead of Best Performance.

I know nothing about the reliability of Tornado cards.
It could just as easily be your OS, as games these days will be optimised to run smoothly on XP, despite the random comment further down to the contrary.

Which GeForce FX card do you have? Is it a Sparkle one?
